2014 World Series Betting Preview; Spring Training Underway

Boston Red SoxThe Boston Red Sox enter the 2014 Major League Baseball season as the defending World Series champions. But there are several teams projected to be bigger contenders than the Red Sox and capture a World Series title.

Leading the way are the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bovada Sportsbook has the Dodgers pegged as the favorites to win the 2014 World Series. There is no question that Los Angeles was the hottest team over the second half of the MLB season. They carried some of that into the postseason with a Divisional Series win over the Atlanta Braves. It was not enough however to carry that over to a win in the NLCS and a berth in the World Series. That went to the St. Louis Cardinals.

At 13/2, the Dodgers lead the way on the World Series payouts with the start of the regular season about a month away. Spring training is already up and running, as teams look to revamp and find that winning recipe.

Behind Los Angeles on preseason betting line are the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees. These two teams usually occupy a top spot at the beginning, with high expectations. That is especially true in New York, where the Yankees hold a world Series or bust mentality more than most. They’ve got the money to spend and have tried to address some of the issues that plagued them in 2013. So much so that New York didn’t even make the playoffs last year. Detroit is slightly ahead of them though, going off at 9/1. The Yankees come in with a payout of 10/1.

Also coming in at 10/1 are the the Cardinals. The defending National League champions have high expectations backed by a solid lineup and a pitching staff that ranks among the best statistically.

The defending World Series champions do crack the top-five favorites. Boston was the best hitting team last season and proved to be the best in MLB with a third World Series title in 10 years. The Red Sox are set at 12/1 to repeat their championship run. But to do so would mean conquering arguably the toughest division baseball. Outside of the Yankees, Boston will have to contend with a Tampa Bay Rays team that is loaded as well. It should make for every interesting games throughout the season.
