Carl Edwards Tagged Betting Favorite In Sunday’s AAA Texas 500
November 6, 2011 – By Scott
Things are winding down in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup and now there are just three races left before this year’s champion will be crowned. The first of these three races will take place on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm ET at Texas Motor Speedway in the AAA Texas 500.
Carl Edwards holds the top spot in the points standings heading into Sunday’s race and is just 8 points ahead of Tony Stewart. Kevin Harvick sits in third (21 points down) while Brad Keselowski (27 points behind) and Matt Kenseth (36 points behind) round out the top 5. And with three races remaining, there is plenty of time for drivers to make a move to the top.
This race could be huge for both Edwards and Stewart as they will be starting very close to one another when the race begins. Stewart qualified fifth and Edwards will be right behind him on Sunday in the seventh spot.
“Five hundred miles, we’ll see what happens,” Edwards said. “You couldn’t pick a better place to just race it out. This is gonna be a good one. I love this place.”
Stewart is coming off a win last weekend at Martinsville and Sunday afternoon’s race is being tagged as a “Texas Title Fight.” Making things even more interesting for Sunday, Stewart hopped out of his car after his win and stated that Edwards “better be worried.”
“No, I just stated a fact that we’re ready for this,” Stewart said. “We’re ready for these three weeks. After a race like we had last Sunday, I’m ready to go for these weeks. If anybody counts us out they’re making a mistake.”
In 19 races in Texas, Stewart has ten top 10 finishes on his resume. But Edwards has dominated as well in Texas and has three wins at the track.
Greg Biffle will start the race from the top spot after winning the pole on Friday. David Ragan will start second and Kenseth and Paul Menard will follow behind.
Kyle Busch will not be in action for Sunday’s race after NASCAR handed down a stiff penalty for his actions in Friday’s Truck Race. Busch purposely wrecked Ron Hornaday Jr and will have to watch Sunday. He currently is in 7th in the points standings.
Bodog Sportsbook has fielded Odds To Win The AAA Texas 500 and Edwards will enter the race as the betting favorite with a moneyline set at 6.50. Kenseth has his set at 7.00 and Stewart is at 7.50.
