Christmas Day Sports Watching Guide: Lakers/Heat, Celtics/Magic Showcased
December 25th, 2010 – by Jimmy
Well, it’s finally Christmas Day. While this may not mean a day off from work for most people, you will be pleased to know that there are some great games coming on the tube today. The NFL, NBA, as well as College Basketball all have games in store for us. Some of these games are truly Christmas gifts while others, ahem Dallas and Arizona, are the proverbial lump of coal in the stocking. Either way, they will still provide a great distraction from the chaos of the morning. Once the kids are down for their Christmas nap, settle in and great ready to be entertained. Without further adieu, here is the schedule of sports for Christmas Day.
While the NFL is king in this country, the NBA is definitely the centerpiece of the buffet table today. Starting with the two biggest games, we’ll inform you of what to look for, what the betting odds are and how you can watch these games.
The first big game of the day is the Orlando Magic playing host to the red hot Boston Celtics. Boston comes into this game as winners of their last 14 games but NBA betting lines show as a 2.5 point underdog against the Magic. Orlando has made some renovations to their team by bringing in Gilbert Arena and shipping out Rashard Lewis. This game is scheduled for a 2:30pm ET tip with coverage being shown on ABC. This should be a great matchup with a lot of intensity.
The second big game of the day, bigger than the first, is a matchup that most have had circled since the 2010-2011 NBA schedule was unveiled, Heat vs. Lakers. The NBA regularly gives us a gift on Christmas and it usually involves the Lakers. Whether it be Shaq vs. Kobe, LeBron vs. Kobe, or the world vs. Kobe, these games always have a lot of hype surrounding them and this one is no different. Though the Heat have seemingly hit their stride now, they are still a 3 point underdog heading out west to the Staples Center. Slated for a 5pm ET tip, this game will probably not be seen until the Celtics and Magic finish up before them as both games are scheduled to be seen on ABC.
The very first NBA game of the day, the Chicago Bulls at the New York Knicks, will tip off at 12pm ET and coverage can be seen on ESPN. While this game is a big matchup, it just doesn’t have the luster of the other matchups. The Knicks are seemingly reborn with Amare’ Stoudemire and the Bulls are leading their division. Oddsmakers see this game being close as the Knicks are a 2 point home favorite for this game. Additionally, the over/under has been set at a total of 207 points.
Other NBA Games Today:
Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder (-6.5) – 8pm ET on ESPN
Portland Trailblazers at Golden State Warriors – 10:30pm ET on ESPN (No Line Available Yet)
On the NFL schedule today, we have two NFC teams that performed well under their expectations for 2010. The Dallas Cowboys (5-9) will travel to the desert to face the Arizona Cardinals (4-10) at 7:30pm ET. While the season has been a wash for both teams, the Dallas Cowboys seem to heading in the right direction with interim head coach Jason Garrett at the helm. With that said, the Dallas Cowboys are a touchdown favorite to beat the Cardinals, despite playing on the road. Coverage of this NFL matchup can be seen on NFL Network at the aforementioned time.
In college basketball, there is just one game featuring a ranked team. The Diamondhead Classic in Hawaii is bringing forth a game with the 15th ranked Baylor Bears facing the Florida State Seminoles. While this is the best game on paper in this tournament, both teams lost in what was essentially the semi-finals, the Bears to Washington State and the Seminoles to Butler. Many expected this game to decide the tournament but instead the Washington State Cougars and Butler Bulldogs will play for that honor. Back to the game at hand, the Seminoles come in as a 3 point underdog against Baylor. This game can be seen on ESPN2 at approximately 7:30pm ET.
Other Games At The Diamondhead Classic Today:
San Diego vs. Utah (-12) – 2pm ET
Mississippi State vs. Hawaii (-2.5) – 4:30pm ET
Washington State (-2) vs. Butler – 9:30pm ET on ESPN2
This slate of games should keep you entertained and even if you don’t find one game you’d like to bet on, that’s fine with us. We at SportsbookGurus.com just want to wish you the Merriest of Christmases.
