Football Coach Supports Players Decision To Remove School Newspapers

March 4th 2010-  By Bryan Cross

Coaches often preach to their players the importance of a team, teammates, and team building.  Apparently Texas A&M-Commerce football coach Guy Morriss instilled it in his players, at least according to him.

Police on the college campus said that the coach of the team believes his players did the right thing by removing all the school newspapers on campus because of an article mentioning fellow teammates who were arrested on charges of drug possession.

“I’m proud of my players for doing that,” Morriss said in an interview. “This was the best team building exercise we have ever done.”

One might recognize Morriss’ name on a national level, as he is a former head coach a Southeastern school Kentucky, and Big 12 member Baylor.

Others had an opinion on the issues as well.

“I don’t think they are smart enough to do this on their own,” Carlton Cooper, Director of Athletics remarked of the event.

After all was said and done, more than 2,000 campus newspapers were removed by the players, which occurred on February 25th.  James Bright, editor of the school paper said that it cost the school roughly $1,100.

Randy Jolly, spokesman for the school said that campus police a conducting an investigation.

The newspaper is handed out around campus for free, and were noticed missing following the football team’s practice on the 25th of February.

Footage by a newspaper stand appears to show two of the school’s football players taking the copies from the area.

Every student is allotted one free copy, but each extra is 25 cents.

Bright believes that Morriss’ reaction is “appalling.”

“He is condoning criminal activity,” Bright said in an interview. “And to me, that is unacceptable.”

While Texas A&M-Commerce is not in FBS college football, NCAA Football Sportsbooks are fielding wagers for the upcoming 2010-11 college football season.  Alabama won the BCS Championship last season by defeating Texas.  As a result, they have been installed as the betting favorite to repeat as champion.

This is too funny. On one hand you got the coach saying he’s pleased and then on the other the school is pissed. 25 cents for an extra copy. They want those quarters, give em up! For some reason I’m reminded of that cheesy ski movie where the paperboy keeps chasing the main character around, maybe John Cusack? Anyway, he keeps busting his balls over $3. Too funny!
