Frank Mir Favored Over Shane Carwin at UFC 111

March 7th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

With Brock Lesnar expected to be out of UFC action for several more months the interim heavyweight title for UFC is on the line March 27th when Frank Mir and Shane Carwin meet in the Octagon at UFC 111.  The winner will face Lesnar when he makes his return.

The veteran Mir boasts an overall MMA record of 13-4.  He last fought in December at UFC 107 against Cheick Kongo, in which he won by submission in the opening round.  Mir is renowned for his submission skill-set and devastating striking abilities.

Mir lost to Lesnar back in July of last year at UFC 100 in the second round by technical knock-out.  In that match up he was unable to get Lesnar in the positions needed for him to have the advantage.  Against Carwin, Mir will try and execute his game-plan to get him on the ground and try to submit Carwin.

Mir can change the pace of any fight, and immediately take it to the ground.  He will have to upper-hand is he is able to do so.

On the other side of the ring, Carwin comes in with an unblemished 11-0 record.  He has had success thus far in UFC, but knows that a match up versus Mir will be one the most difficult to date.

“This fight with Frank is my career balled up into 25 minutes. If I beat Frank I answer questions about who I am and what I can do in this sport. If I don’t I am just another heavyweight in a sea of great fighters. I know when I wake up in the morning and I can barely walk out the door to start my morning run that I am giving it 100% of my effort,” Carwin remarked.

“That is all you can control in life, giving 100%. I train and live like each fight may be my last and to move ahead I have to make a statement.”

Carwin excels with his relentless fighting style and determination.  He refuses to lose, and gives everything he has into the fight.  If he is to take down Mir, Carwin will have to formulate a plan to combat Mir’s attempts to submit him, which Carwin’s knows he will try to do.

Keeping the fight standing, and being patient is what Carwin will have to try and do if he to be successful in this match up.

MMA Sportsbooks are favoring Mir in this match up, as he has been installed a -160 favorite to retain the interim heavyweight title according to Bodog Sportsbook.  Carwin has been established as a +130 underdog.

UFC 111 can be seen live on pay-per-view on March 27th.  Contact your local cable company for details.

honestly cant wait for GSP to shut up Dan Hardy.. Dan Hardy is NO
competition for GSP … Thiago Alves is a better competitor than Dan Hardy and Alves got his pounded by GSP with a pulled groin. Dan Hardy is a JOKE!!

Mir/Carwin Hardy/GSP is the best card we have seen since UFC 100 (the
last time GSP fought) and Hardy is talking lots of trash.
GSP is a heavy favourite and by all means should dominate YET again..
Carwin and Mir is gonna be ridiculous!! Think Carwin will knock him
out? Hard to say, Mir has looked so much better and dominated Kongo but none of Carwins fights have went past 2:30 of round 1.. gonna be amazing!!

I knew Shane Carwin was gonna win 1st round knockout but honetly wasn’t expecting it to actually go down that way. So yeah i just finished watching the fight, Carwin pushes Frank mir against the cage Ref breaks them up, same thing happens again and than Carwin with flurry hard punches drops Mir and finishes him. Am i shocked? Yes. It tells me that Brock Lesnar is in deep trouble since Carwin seemed to have less trouble destroying Frank than Brock had. All i can say Brock needs to watch out for his upcoming bout with Carwin, especially he just started to settle in after his life threatening illness. Reality is if Carwin defeats Lesnar the Dream match everyone was hoping for Fedor vs Lesnar is going to slip, and i doubt Shane is going to want to take on the Great Fedor. As he did admit fedor being the best P4P fighter and only having a lucky punchers chance.
