Kevin Harvick Tagged Betting Favorite For Sunday’s Good Sam Club 500
October 23, 2011 – By Scott
The 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup heads to Talladega on Sunday for the Good Sam Club 500. The halfway point in this year’s Chase is past all those in contention and as the “playoffs” in NASCAR begin to wind down, each race is becoming more important.
Hendrick Motorsports had a good day on Saturday qualifying as they swept the front row for Sunday’s race. Mark Martin won the pole and was just slightly better than Jimmie Johnson, the five time defending champion. Superspeedway races this season have been something the team has relished as they have won the pole at four this season.
Johnson will look to regroup from last weekend where he dropped from third to eighth in the standings thanks to a bad accident. But he finds himself in good position to make up some ground with his good qualifying time. He is currently 35 points behind with just five races left in the Chase.
Clint Bowyer will start from the third position and he is followed by Trevor Bayne, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is 9th in the standings and 60 points behind, to round out the top 6. Points leader Carl Edwards qualified 9th.
Kevin Harvick is currently 2nd in the standings and five points behind. Matt Kenseth is third and only seven points behind leader Edwards as he looks to possibly take over the lead with a good race Sunday.
Bodog Sportsbook has fielded Odds To Win The Good Sam Club 500 and have tagged Harvick as the betting favorite with 10.00 odds. What this means for sports bettors is if you wager $1 you win $9. Earnhardt Jr. is at 11.00, Johnson is at 12.00 and Gordon, Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are all 13.00.
In addition to Sunday’s race, Bodog also has Odds to Win The 2011 Sprint Cup Championship for sports bettors to wager on and Edwards has been labeled the betting favorite followed by Harvick and Kenseth as they make up the top 3 favorites.
