April 4th, 2011- By Bryan Cross
The Connecticut Huskies are on the verge of completing arguably the most impressive post-season tournament run in the history of college basketball, should they cap off the season with a national title over the Butler Bulldogs on Monday night.
UConn began their post-season run with a string of five victories over the course of five days in the Big East conference tournament, in which they defeated four ranked opponents en route to the conference title.
From there, the Huskies have continued to roll through the national tournament, winning the West Region to advance to the Final Four, where they got by the Kentucky Wildcats to reach the national championship game.
“Our code has been very simple: ‘The hell with it, let’s just go play basketball,” said UConn head coach Jim Calhoun of the current run that his Huskies are on. “Well, we wouldn’t be doing all the things we did last night defensively to Kentucky if we just kind of rolled the thing out there. We worked very hard on it. But we worked on it in a different way.”
As a No.3 seed, UConn has played well throughout the tournament. The Huskies got by Bucknell in their opener, and then moved onto face Big East foe Cincinnati. From there, UConn got by No.2 seed San Diego State in the Sweet 16, and No.5 seed Arizona in the Elite-8.
For the national championship game against Butler, UConn has been installed as a 3.5-point favorite over the Bulldogs. From there, UConn got by No.2 seed San Diego State in the Sweet-16, and No.5 seed Arizona in the Elite-8.
Oddsmakers have set UConn as a 3.5-point favorite in the national championship game over Butler, as the Huskies look
