No.18 Wisconsin Badgers A Home Favorite Over No.11 Purdue Boilermakers

February 1st, 2011- By Bryan Cross

A Top-25 match up in College Basketball takes place on Tuesday night when the No.11 Purdue Boilermakers match up with the No.18 Wisconsin Badgers.  It’s a conference battle that could go a long way in determining the momentum built for these two in the coming weeks as the last full month of the regular season begins.

For Purdue (18-4, 7-2), they come in struggling on the road, dropping their last three away from home and needing to turn that around against the Badgers to avoid falling back three games behind No.1 Ohio State. The Buckeyes remain the only undefeated team in the country, and have a two-game lead over Purdue in the Big Ten standings.

Of course, the Boilermakers did not help their cause when they dropped to the Buckeyes last week by 23 points. Though they came back nicely with a victory over previous No.16 Minnesota.

“Anytime you lose a game like that, or a game in general, it sits with you for a while and you want to erase that feeling as quick as possible,” leading points scorer JaJuan Johnson said. “We let one go against Ohio State, but we didn’t want to let this one go.”

The Boilermakers have two of the next three games on the schedule on the road including the match up with Wisconsin on Tuesday night.

On the other side of the court for Wisconsin (15-5, 5-3), they get a home match up after splitting their last two games on the road. The loss to Penn State was particularly painful, as the Badgers controlled a 13-point lead at one point.

“We hit a little bit of a cold spell on these shots right here and every guy in that locker room knows that we have to hit a couple of those,” remarked Purdue head coach Bo Ryan of his team’s recent performance. “It was just one of those days.”

Now, they look to rebound against a Purdue team that has struggled on the road.

Wisconsin has been victorious in 32 of their last 33 games at home, going undefeated so far this season.

Wisconsin/Purdue Game Line: College basketball betting lines have set Wisconsin as a five-point favorite over Purdue in this one, with the over/under sitting at 122.5 points. The Badgers sport a 10-6 ATS record this season, while the Boilermakers are 12-7 ATS.

Wisconsin Betting Trends: The Badgers are 4-0 ATS in their last for match ups after coming off of an ATS loss. Additionally, Wisconsin is 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games. The Over is 3-1-1 in the Badgers last five when installed as the betting favorite.

Purdue Betting Trends: The Boilermakers are 6-1 ATS in their last seven match ups on a Tuesday night. Purdue is also 5-1 ATS in their last six when installed as the betting underdog of 0.5-6.5 points. The Over is 7-0-1 in Purdue’s last eight on a Tuesday night.
