No.3 Duke Blue Devils A Big Favorite At Home Over Boston College Eagles

January 27th, 2011- By Bryan Cross

A clash in the ACC takes place on Thursday night when the No.3 Duke Blue Devils take on the Boston College Eagles. The Blue Devils have the opportunity to move up in the polls after No.2 Pittsburgh. And combined with the loss of No.4 San Diego State Duke does not run the risk of being leaped as only Ohio State remains undefeated in Division I College Basketball.

The Blue Devils (18-1, 5-1) have not lost at home in almost two years, and will continue to try and push that streak against the Eagles, hoping to remain tied atop the ACC with the Florida State Seminoles. Florida State though owns the tiebreaker currently, as they defeated Duke in Tallahassee earlier this month, the Blue Devils lone-loss on the season.

The emergence of Duke’s Ryan Kelly has been a big assetsfor the Blue Devils since ACC play began. In fact, Kelly has not missed from the floor in his last 13 attempts, a span that has encapsulated two games. He is hot from beyond-the-arc too, knocking down his last six 3-point attempts.

“Since ACC play (began), he’s gotten better every game,” remarked Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “He’s a very reliable player, and he doesn’t get flustered. He knows where he’s supposed to be all the time, and I think he’s become more aggressive and ready to take his shot.”

Duke has won 12 out of the lat 14 games against Boston College, and has won 52 in a row at home against unranked opponents.

For the Eagles (14-6, 4-2), they come in after a loss on the road to Florida State over the weekend, and try to hand the Blue Devils a rare home loss. Boston College will have to turn their defense around if they hope to contend with Duke, as they let Florida State make over half of their field goals.

Duke is one of the highest scoring teams in College Basketball, averaging close to 86 points per game.

They will need to rely on leading-scorer Reggie Jackson, who is putting up 19 points per game to go along with five assists. He ranks second in scoring in the conference.

Duke/Boston College Game Line: College Basketball Betting lines have set Duke as an asserted 16.5-point favorite over Boston College in this one, with the over/under sitting at 149.5 points on Bodog Sportsbook. The Blue Devils are 10-8 ATS this season, while the Eagles are 8-8 ATS.

Duke Betting Trends: The Blue Devils are 1-4 ATS in their last five games at home. Additionally, Duke is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games when set as the betting favorite. The Under is 4-1 in Duke’s last five games after an ATS win.

Boston College Betting Trends: The Eagles are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games played on Thursday night. The Under is 6-1 in Boston College’s last eight road games.
