5- The Miami Heat are set as a five-point favorite of the Dallas Mavericks in the 2011 NBA Finals. Game 1 saw Miami protect their home-court advantage thus far, with a 92-84 victory on Tuesday night. The Heat also covered the 4.5-point spread installed for Game 1, on top of the straight up victory. Game 2 gets under way from American Airlines Arena on Thursday night at 9pm Et, with the storyline of Mavericks’ star Dirk Nowitzki and the injury to his non-shooting hand. Nowitzki tore a tendon in his left finger, but often likes to drive to his left with his left hand, and ball handling now becoming a question.
19- The number of seasons that Shaquille O’Neal played in the NBA, before announcing his retirement on Wednesday of this week. O’Neal is widely perceived as one of the best centers in the game all-time, as the fifth-leading scorer in NBA history. He won four championships in his 19 years, including three with the L.A Lakers and the last in 2006 with the Miami Heat. O’Neal spent this past season with the Boston Celtics, but struggled with injuries that prevented him from being consistently on the court.
18.5- The number of seconds left in the final period of Game 1 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins, when Vancouver’s Raffi Torres knocked the puck past Boston’s goalie Tim Thomas to go up 1-0. That would end up being the final, as the Canucks now take an early 1-0 series lead in the Finals, just three wins away from their first-ever Stanley Cup title. Both goalies, Roberto Luongo for Vancouver, and Thomas for Boston, stepped up to the task at hand in Game 1, as the potent offenses for both teams struggled to get it past either one. In the end though, it came down to just one play that was needed, for which the the home team was able to get the early edge.
98- The number of days until the start of the 2011 NFL regular season should the year not be put on hold due to the collective bargaining agreement. Recent developments this week though hinted at a secret meeting between the NFLPA and the owners, which many point to as a very good sign for those hoping that no regular season games are missed in the 2011 NFL Season. Super Bowl XLVI Betting Lines continue to favor the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots to win the championship next season, with both going off at 4/1 on Bodog Sportsbook.
