In what was considered a mild surprise for the night, Matthew McConaughey took home the Best Actor award for his performance in The Dallas Buyers Club. This is a film that follows the life of a man who is told that he has only a little amount of time left after contracting the aids virus, and his journey to help create awareness. For the role, McConaughey lost 45 pounds and looked like a mere shell of himself. But it was something that McConaughey felt strongly that he needed to do in order to grasp the role entirely.
McConaughey’s performance in The Dallas Buyers Club caused him to receive critical acclaim. That was rewarded with the Golden Globes, but now the sights are set on the Oscars.
