Then came Jeremy Lin. This new Knicks squad seemed to have found their identity with Lin running the show and reeled off 7 straight wins to get them at .500.
The energy and excitement had been felt all throughout the country but on Friday against New Orleans, reality set back in. The Knicks dropped their first game 89-85 since that February 3 loss.
The Knicks will get a chance to get back on the winning side of things on Sunday afternoon as they host the Dallas Mavericks at 1:00 pm ET.
The Mavericks (20-11), after dropping three straight early this month have gotten back on track and won six in a row. Their most recent win came on Friday night where they got past the Philadelphia 76ers 82-75.
The defending champion Mavericks enter the game getting 94.5 points per game. Dirk Nowitzki is their scoring leader and he is getting 18.6 points per game. He got 28 points in the win on Friday, 24 of them coming in the second half. Over the past eight games, Nowitzki is shooting 50.0 percent from the field and averaging 24.3 points.
“I had a couple go in, and we all know when a shooter sees a couple go in, the confidence goes up,” Nowitzki said. “I knew in the second half I was going to come out and keep firing. I’m glad they went in.”
He will look to keep this hot streak going against a New York team that is allowing just 93.9 points per game which is 12th in the NBA.
Lin has been the story for the Knicks during their recent success. However, one thing that must be noted is that he has a total of 42 turnovers in his first seven games and had 9 in their loss on Friday.
The Knicks are likely going to be without Carmelo Anthony for the seventh straight game because of a strained right groin. Him not being in the lineup could be huge against a very good Dallas team.
NBA Basketball Betting Lines have the Mavericks as 3-point favorites at the Knicks on Sunday afternoon.
