When the Denver Broncos host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon in Week 3 NFL preseason action, both teams will showcase their starters for probably the final time before the regular season begins.
This will probably be more important for the Broncos as they get Peyton Manning acclimated to his new offense and new offensive scheme. In addition, more playing time will build continuity that will be much needed come their season opener.
Sunday will provide the toughest test for Manning since his return from his neck injury. Since both teams will have their starting units in for a majority of the game, he will go against one of the best defenses from last season which finished second overall.
The Broncos are coming off a 30-10 loss to Seattle last week. Manning failed to throw a touchdown in the loss and passed for 177 yards but had 2 picks. In addition, the offense had just 247 total yards. The defense is where they also need improvement as they allowed 405 total yards to the Seahawks.
For San Francisco, they enter the matchup coming off a 20-9 loss. They too will look to build off a poor offensive showing as they had just 267 total yards. Quarterback Alex Smith had just nine pass attempts and passed for 49 yards but was sacked twice.
Fans can expect a better showing from both teams on Sunday as the starters will be in for a majority of the game. But this matchup should provide a much better picture for the Broncos as to how far Manning has come.
Despite NFL preseason action being a stickler in regards to wagering on games, Bovada Sportsbook still provides that opportunity. The Broncos will get the edge in this matchup as oddsmakers have tagged Denver as 1 1/2-point favorites in their NFL Preseason Betting Odds.
Sunday’s matchup between the Broncos and 49ers is set for 4:00 pm ET and can be seen live on FOX.
