Mike Shanahan announced this week that John Beck will be the starter for the upcoming preseason games for the Washington Redskins, opting to go with him over Rex Grossman.
Beck will get the start against the Indianapolis Colts this week, getting his opportunity to showcase his abilities as he tries to put to rest the 1-15 record during his rookie campaign in Miami
“I’m excited to play because I missed an opportunity,” Beck said. “It was tough to go through an injury because I missed practice, and that was frustrating, and not being able to play in the game, that was also frustrating. It’s good to come out and get a week of practice, get back into the flow of things and just be excited about a game.”
Beck doesn’t have much experience other than in his rookie season, due to injuries, but comes into thie 2011-12 NFL Season healthy and ready to compete with Grossman for the starting position.
“My mindset is a little different,” Beck said. “This entire time I’ve been preparing differently. Although it was a tough situation in Miami, I also learned a lot of things.”
He has the confidence of Shanahan, who said that the quarterback is back close to 100 percent.
The Redskins are a six-point favorite over the Colts on Friday’s game on NFL Preseason Betting Lines on Bodog Sportsbook.
Shanahan was not detailed on how many series or how much playing time Beck will get, but one can be fairly certain that he will get more than a few series to showcase what he can do with the offense, more so than a team already set on their starting quarterback.
This is more of an audition, than a formality.
