In ACC college basketball action on Sunday night, the Maryland Terrapins will head into Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Both teams are at 3-3 in the conference and this game could provide momentum for the winner as they look to climb the ladder in the conference standings.
The Yellow Jackets (10-9, 3-3) are coming off a 72-57 win over Virginia Tech which brought their record to .500 in the ACC. This win was much needed after suffering a disappointing loss to Virginia in the game before. They have been playing pretty solid defense as of late and are actually one of the hottest teams in the conference lately winning three out of their last four games. Their solid defense proved to be very effective in the win over the Hokies. They forced 18 turnovers in that game and recorded 11 steals.
Offensively, Georgia Tech is shooting 42 percent from the floor. Brian Oliver came off the bench against the Hokies to give them a much needed spark and poured in 28 points, including hitting 4 of 9 from 3-point range.
Maryland (13-7, 3-3) is coming off a 66-42 route over Virginia which gives them a two-game winning streak. They have been playing solid on both sides of the ball, but none more impressive than the defensive end. They rank 9th in the nation in field goal percentage defense and are holding opponents to just 37.9 percent from the field and just 63 points per game. Not good news if your a Georgia Tech fan that is not one of the highest scoring teams in the league.
The Terps have shown they can produce offensively as well and are averaging 77 points per game on 48 percent shooting. Jordan Williams is their offensive scoring threat and he is averaging 17.0 points per game. They are also shooting well as team from the three-point line over their past two games, including 7 of 15 in their win over Virginia.
Online sportsbooks have Maryland favored by 2 1/2 on the road against Georgia Tech on Sunday night.
