Both the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans will be debuting new quarterbacks in their preseason opener this Saturday night, when veterans Donovan McNabb and Matt Hasselbeck take the field.
But for the Vikings, they will also have a first-round rookie in Christian Ponder under center at some point in this one.
Ponder was the No.12 overall selection in April’s Draft, and is expected to be the future of the Minnesota organization. But for now, McNabb will be the starter for this season, and will likely play a few series against the Titans.
But then, expect Ponder to get some significant playing time, now against players not on his team and in an NFL setting and stadium.
On the other side of the field, Hasselbeck comes to Tennessee after spending the mjority of his career with the Seattle Seahawks. Hasselbeck comes in with a strong arm and veteran leadership to try and steer this Titans team to a competitive status once again in the AFC South.
The same likely goes for McNabb. But both quarterbacks, given the fact that they are new to the systems, will want to get on the field in a real situation against different competition with their new teammates.
Ponder will probably play most of the game from the second quarter on for the Vikings, with those Minnesota fans optimistic about this cerebral quarterback out of Florida State.
Oddsmakers for this one have installed the Titans as a three-point favorite in this match up with the Vikings on NFL Preseason Betting Lines at Bodog Sportsbook. The Over/Under for the game has been set at 33 points.
This one kicks off at 8:00pm ET on Saturday night.
