MMA fans have awaited the matchup between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson and it will finally take place tonight in Strikeforce’s main event in Illinois. For years many have wanted these two pioneers of the sport to meet head to head and Saturday night’s fight should be an exciting one to say the least.
Henderson (27-8) enters the fight at the age of 40 and will be the elder of the two. Despite his age, he has compiled a 4-1 record in his last five fights. Henderson will not have the weight advantage over Emelianenko but this, along with his age, should not be a factor come Saturday night. He brings such dynamic wresting ability in his arsenal and history has shown that fighters who are up in age perform extremely well when they possess his kind of ground skills.
For Emelianenko (31-3) he is coming of consecutive losses entering the fight and will be looking to avenge these losses against Henderson. This fight will be extremely important for him as he seeks to keep his name among the elite in MMA. A win over a quality opponent in Henderson should elevate his status after consecutive losses.
Emelianenko does not have the most orthodox style of striking in MMA but it is in fact very effective. He has shown some impressive ability defensively on the ground also which will once again be needed in his fight with Henderson. Henderson will likely look to take the fight to the floor where he has the advantage so being effective on the ground will be important for Emelianenko. There is a lot on the line in this fight for Emelianenko and how is mind set is will be key after losing his last two fights.
Bodog sportsbook has listed odds in this matchup between Emelianenko and Henderson and feel that Emelianenko will prevail. His moneyline is set at -250 while Henderson has his set at +190. Along with these odds are some great prop bets for the fight that sports bettors can wager on as well.
