Forgetting about last year’s Super Bowl defeat still might be a tough pill to swallow for the New England Patriots in their loss to the New York Giants. But a new season will quickly erase that bad memory.
Week 2 of the NFL preseason begins an important part of finalizing roster and position starters for those in question. If there is an area that the Pats need to improve on before the season begins it would be on the defensive side of the ball.
Offensively last year they were sound and should be again with Tom Brady behind center and his slew of receivers. However, a defense that was 31st against the pass and 17th against the run a year ago definitely needs to be ramped up.
Their second outing of this preseason occurs Monday night as they welcome in the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Patriots defense fared well in their opener, limiting the New Orleans Saints to just 6 points. But keep in mind backups played the majority of the game.
Against the Eagles though, that defense will get a much bigger test as Philadelphia plans to play their starters for at least the first half and into the second possibly.
Finding a backup for Michael Vick seems to be an issue for the Eagles. Mike Kafka is expected to be that backup but he is out nursing a broken hand. Head coach Andy Reid said that Nick Foles will go in when Vick leaves and play the remainder of the game.
Preseason action is hard to wager on but Bovada Sportsbook still makes it available and they have installed the Patriots as 1-point favorites on Monday night in their NFL Preseason Betting Lines. The OVER/UNDER in points is set at 40 1/2.
The Eagles vs Patriots matchup can be seen live on ESPN Monday night at 8:00 pm ET.
