2014 NFL Season Opens This Week; Super Bowl 49 Futures Released

Seattle SeahawksThe wait is over! The NFL is back!

Beginning tomorrow, the 2014 NFL regular season officially kicks off with the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Green Bay Packers. The Seahawks open up looking to defending the Super Bowl title they won last season.

It’s a fantastic matchup to get things going, with Seattle picked to make it back to the Super Bowl for a second consecutive season. The Seahawks lead the way to make it out of the NFC according to Bovada Sportsbook’s 2015 Super Bowl betting lines. At 6/1, oddsmakers believe that they will pick up right where they left off.

But they happen to trail the team they dominated in the Super Bowl last season. That’s right, the Denver Broncos top preseason Super Bowl XLIX odds. The Broncos have been slated at 11/2, which is a payout just ahead of the Seahawks.

There are 30 other teams in the NFL though that would like to be in the position that Seattle and Denver were in last season.

The majority of these teams come from the NFC. There is a noticeable divide in the balance of power at the top of both conferences; at least in terms of preseason predictions. The AFC is considered the weaker of the two conferences, with just two of the top-eight favorites to win Super bowl 49. It’s the Broncos and the New England Patriots, and that’s it.

On the other hand, the NFC has the Seahawks, 49ers, Packers, Saints, Eagles, and the Bears.

There is a clear top-six favorites though before getting to Chicago and Philadelphia. New Orleans sits at 9/1 before the payout jumps to 20/1 for the Eagles.

It will be interesting to see how these payouts evolve throughout the course of the season, as we can expect changes after each week of games.

The payouts go all the way down to 250/1, where the Jacksonville Jaguars make up the longest shot. The Jaguars have some nice pool side cabanas in their stadium this season, which could very well be the biggest draw for fans to come. It’s a safe bet that it won’t be due to the quality of football on the field…from the home team.
