March 13, 2011 – By Scott
The month of March is one of the most crucial times of the year for college basketball fans. It is labeled March Madness and for a good reason. The NCAA Tournament is held in March and fields the top teams in college basketball vying for the coveted championship trophy.
With the conference tournaments coming to an end on Sunday, all that is left is selecting the field for the 2011 NCAA Tournament in college basketball. Many teams who are on the bubble will have to wait until Sunday at 6 p.m. EST to find out their fate. Also, notching a No. 1 seed is something on the minds of a few of college’s top teams.
As far as the No. 1 seeds go, it appears as though Ohio State, Kansas and Pittsburgh are sure-ins for three of the four top spots. The other remaining spot in question has to be between Notre Dame and possibly Duke after they now defeated North Carolina to capture the ACC Tournament championship. BYU was talked about not long ago when it came to a No. 1 seed but their downward spiral began when Brandon Davies was suspended for the rest of the season. Still, they should find themselves as a No. 2 or No. 3 seed.
The last four at large bids are another topic of discussion on how the selection committee will select. Many feel that Penn State, Alabama, USC and Virginia Tech could solidify these spots but who really knows? The last teams in always leave many wondering why some teams were left out due to similar resumes.
The tournament field will be released Sunday at 6 p.m. EST on CBS. Be sure to check out NCAA basketball sportsbooks for all the betting lines for each of the tournament games.
