Future Bets

Many new folks to the sports betting community have probably wondering what Future Bets are. Well here Sportsbook Gurus, we are happy to explain exactly what a future bet is. A future bet consists of bets made in the future about the outcome of a season, game or player. They are very similar to prop bets but are usually made before a season starts and will look something like this: Which team will win the Superbowl in 2009-2010 season? It will then list all the NFL teams with some odds next to them.

The odds will change as the season goes on but if you pick it early and you team does do well, you keep the same odds when you bet on it. Odds are determined by a number of factors including previous record, new players, coaching changes, as well as many more reasons. Online Sportsbooks have many sports you can future bet on including Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, Soccer, Tennis, Boxing, MMA, Golf, NASCAR, Horse Racing, Rugby, Cricket, Olympics, Entertainment and many others.

I will give you some examples to show you what a Future Betting may look like on some online sports books. College Football: Who will win the BCS National Championship next season?  Who will win the Heisman Trophy next season? Baseball: Who will win the World Series next season? Who will win the World Baseball Classic? NASCAR: Who will win this season Sprint/Nextel Cup? What Car maker will win the championship? Poker: Who will win the most money in 2009?

I think you are starting to get the idea of what these bets are all about. Honestly these bets are more fun than anything. But if you do happen to get lucky over the course of the season, the payout is real nice depending on who you bet on. Some of the bets have extremely crazy odds for instance, who will win the Superbowl in 09-10? If you were to pick the Detroit Lions, who had pitiful seasons last year and they were to win, the pay out would be 100/1.

If you were to bet who would win the World Baseball Classic and you picked South Africa, the payout would be 200/1. The absolute craziest odds I found were on the Memphis Grizzles to win this year’s NBA Championship at 3000/1. As for the easy bets, I found 2/1 odds on Tiger Woods winning the 2009 Masters. That is mostly likely a sure thing. All in all future bets are great and fun, but are not truly considered a very good bet because most are so difficult to win. Mostly bettors, who Bet on Futures, do them just for kicks at the beginning of the season to see how things play out.
